What?
What do we mean by disability?
When we talk about disability we are referring to anyone who self-identifies as disabled / living with a disability, including (but not limited to): those with visual and hearing impairments, those with both physical and mental health conditions and neurodiverse people.
What is our campaign aim?
To get parliamentary constituencies across the UK to become disability and neurodivergent inclusive.
Why?
- Under the Equality Act 2010 (England, Scotland and Wales) or the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (Northern Ireland), disability discrimination is unawful and so is failure to provide reasonable adjustments to disabled people
- Disability inclusion and representation is key in working towards equity and social justice
- A lack of disability inclusion in our political system weakens UK democracy
- Every day, politicians and leaders are planning to enforce new policy that will particularly affect disabled people (e.g. benefits and employment) and it isn’t right that these decisions be made without listening to those it will affect
- A space that is disability and neurodivergent friendly is friendly and inclusive for all
How?
We are asking MPs to pledge to being disability inclusive. This includes adhering to a list of accessible and inclusive practices involving events MPs hold in their constituency and things like the content they distribute online.
For example, under constituent meetings, we would expect MPs to ask if you have any accessibility requirements, with a list underneath for you to check yes to which, if any, apply to you. Then your MP would make any adjustments needed. Example of inclusive practices for online content are writing image descriptions for online images and making sure all videos have live audio captioning.
In order to get MPs to take this pledge, we are using a form for constituents to write to their MP about the campaign – you can find out more about this and write to your MP here.

What can I do?
There are a number of things you can do to show your support for the campaign. Writing to your MP is the most important action you can take. We would also ask that you sign up for our email updates, follow us on social media and share the campaign online and offline. If you’re able to volunteer and / or donate, we would be very grateful!
Yes, we are always looking for volunteers! Sign up here and we’ll be in touch with the next steps shortly.
We are currently looking to set this up, so keep an eye on our socials and website!
Keep an eye on our resources section at the top of this page. If you’re still not sure about something, please feel free to email us at info@politicsforall.org and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can!
MPs will be asked by constituents to take our pledge, typically using some of our resources such as our email template. If an MP then agrees to this, they sign our pledge agreement document (a set of inclusive practices they are promising to adhere to in their role as MP). MPs are then encouraged to take part in our free workshop designed specifically for them to learn more about the pledge and why it matters.
We will continue holding MPs that take up our pledge to account with reviews and sharing of information and resources. We also offer all MPs that take the pledge the option to attend a free 1-1 workshop, discussing the pledge, the wider topic of disability inclusion for example language to use and of course any questions the MP may have.
